Type Locality and Naming

The name was created by Chen Zepei et al in 1985. The type section is located at Gongjinling, east of Nanhao Village, Baoting County, Henan Province.

Synonym: (足赛岭组)


Lithology and Thickness

It is dominated by gray, bluish gray, grayish black phyllite. Lower part, over 300 m thick, is represented by grayish black carbonaceous phyllite with black phyllite partings. Upper part is occasionally with sericitic quartzose siltstone, light gray medium-to-fine-grained quartzose sandstone and carbonaceous silty slate; the middle and upper parts are intercalated with grayish white crystalline limestone of 274 m in thickness. The total formation is generally 857 m in thickness.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation rests conformably on the Kaoqinshan Fm

Upper contact

It is pseudo-conformably or disconformably overlain by the Nanhao Fm of the Yanguan Stage (Tournaisian Stage of earliest Carboniferous).

Regional extent

It is mainly exposed in the Sanya and Nanhao area.

The Zusailing Fm yields anthozoa Plasmopora sp., ?Amplexoides sp., Tryplasma sp.; brachiopod? Atrypa sp.
